Software updates are frequently released. These updates serve many different purposes: new features are added to current software, fixes to bugs/problems, or for the improvement of your computer's operation. When you get ready to update your software, one thing to keep in mind is that it will typically go faster if you are doing this at school. Your laptop is directed to the server to help the updating process go quicker…you can still do this from home.
Here are a few things to keep in mind where ever you choose to do your updating:
Depending on how long it's been since your last update, leave a fair amount of time for the process - some updates may take up to 30 minutes.
Have all other programs closed – your computer will have to restart after the download/install are done. Trying to do other tasks on your computer will only slow down the updating process.
Have your power cord plugged in to your computer – when getting ready to install and this isn’t done, you will get a message asking you to plug your computer into a power source.
